Shabelle Irrigation Infrastructure Project in Goday and Kalafo Districts – Somali Region State

For two years, the Study, Design, and Supervision Works Enterprise (SDSWE) has efficiently worked on the large-scale irrigation infrastructure project in the Shabelle region, covering the Goday and Kalafo districts. The project, which aims to irrigate 40,000 hectares of land, will significantly improve agricultural production, foster economic growth, and create job opportunities. The project has utilized knowledge, technical expertise, consultation, and innovation to effectively address the needs of farmers in the region. Project Objectives This project is designed to address the irrigation needs of the region, supporting farmers and boosting the local economy. It is also part of broader national infrastructure development plans aimed at enhancing irrigation systems across the country. Project Progress Over the two years, the project faced various technical challenges and other obstacles, all of which were successfully resolved. The project has now reached its final stage, and it is expected to deliver lasting benefits, positively impacting current and future generations.

SRS Study, Design and Supervision Works Enterprise Signs Agreement with MoWE

April 10, 2025 (G.C)The Deputy Director of the SRS Study, Design and Supervision Works Enterprise, Eng. Hanan Abdo Mohamed, signed a new project supervision agreement with H.E. Dr. Asfaw Dingamo, Minister of Water and Energy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The agreement focuses on the quality control and supervision of the Cayuun Water Supply Project, which aims to improve access to clean drinking water in the Cayuun district. The project will be implemented at the required standards and within the scheduled time frame. The project is valued at over 20 million ETB. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Dr. Asfaw Dingamo praised the Enterprise’s strong performance and collaborative history with the Ministry, noting its success in previous similar projects. He emphasized his confidence in the Enterprise’s ability to ensure timely implementation and high-quality standards for the Cayuun water supply project.

SHINILE GROUNDWATER IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT PROJECT – PHASE I

Progress Review Meeting Held in Gabi Kebele, Hadhagaale District, Sitti Zone A high-level meeting was held today in Gabi Kebele, under Hadhagaale District in the Sitti Zone of the Somali Regional State. The focus of the meeting was the ongoing groundwater irrigation development project in the area. The meeting was attended by senior officials including: H.E. Dr. Abraham Belay (PhD), Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Areas Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Eng. Mohamed Shalle, Head of the Somali Prosperity Party Office Hon. Mohamed Fatax Mohamed, Minister of Irrigation Development of the Somali Regional State Officials from the SRS Study, Design and Supervision Works Enterprise Project implementers and stakeholders The project is fully financed by the Federal Ministry of Irrigation and Lowland Areas Development. The construction contract was awarded to Oromia Construction Corporation, while the contract administration, consultancy, and supervision are being carried out by the SRS Study, Design and Supervision Works Enterprise (SDSWE). Objective of the Meeting The main purpose of the meeting was to assess the current status and progress of the project, with a specific focus on construction and rehabilitation activities. Key Project Components Include: Rehabilitation of 41 boreholes Construction of a 41-kilometer gravel road According to the latest report, the overall physical progress of the project has reached 44%.
